Strong, simple and bold shapes form the basis of all my design work and I am inspired by the limitless ways in which I can combine these shapes, repeating and clustering to form fluid and rythmic jewellery. These shapes echo in my silver objects, which are sculptural and very tactile, functional and add an indulgence to daily life. I look for unity in my work, for example, intergrated catches in my jewellery that are a feature as well as a function. Through this a client can gain a real ownership of the piece as they choose how they like to wear it. Elegance and a balance in the design as well as surface finishes that reflect the softness of the shapes and the quality of craftsmanship in the piece are what I strive for in my work.
I was first introduced to jewellery and metalwork at Hastings College of Art and Technology whilst studying on a BTEC Foundation Diploma (2001-2002). I decided that I would like to specialize in this subject and so went on to complete a BA (Hons) in Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery at the Kent Institute of Art and Design (2002-2005). Where I now teach as a sessional design tutor. I then went on to complete a residential year with the Bishopsland Educational Trust (2005-2006). Here I set up my business as a jeweller and silversmith.
